4th North East Poetry Festival in March

Dimapur, January 22 (MExN):
The 4th North East Poetry Festival 2011 will be held in March 2011 on the theme ‘Promotion & Protection of Child Rights. Entry forms for the poetry writing competition on the said theme can be obtained from the monthly newsletter of Dimensions ‘The Speakers’ Corner. All details are mentioned in the entry form. BJYM Nagaland to attend “Ekta Yatra”

Dimapur, January 22 (MExN):
BJYM Nagaland will be participating in the “Ekta Yatra” followed by a flag hoisting at Lal Chowk in the state of Jammu & Kashmir on Republic Day. The Nagaland team will be headed by Mathew K Janger, secretary of BJYM Nagaland and Secretary in-charge of Tuensang and Mon districts, accompanied by BJYM Dimapur district members. The team left for the programme on January 22 by train from Dimapur Railway station. This was informed in a press release issued by the office of the BJYM Nagaland.

DC Kohima notifies govt recognized villages

Kohima, January 22 (DIPR):
Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Bei-u Angami has notified to all the government recognized villages in Kohima district to select members of the Village Councils on or before 31-01-2011 in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations. In the event of any village having constituted the village council recently and approved by Government and if any village desires to continue with the same old team, the list of Village Council should again be submitted afresh and the tenure should be for 5 (five) years as per the Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Rules, 1979 in accordance with the Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Act, 1978

DC Phek informs

Phek, January 22 (MExN):
The Deputy Commissioner, Phek in exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 3 of the Nagaland Village and Area Councils Rules 1979, having regard to the general interest of the people declared that the village shall select members of the Village Council, whose 5 years term has completed, in accordance with the prevailing customary practices and usages within 15 days from the date of issue of this notification. The names of the members so chosen shall be submitted to the office of the DC through their respective local Administrative Officers. The Administrative Officers are to supervise the selection process of all the Village Councils within their respective jurisdiction as per Rule 22 of the Rules to ensure peaceful selection of the members and chairman of the Village Council.

Attempt-to-murder condemned

Dimapur, January 22 (MExN):
The Wokha Town New Riphyim Pongdenro Ekhung today expressed condemnation for what it stated is the attempt-to-murder made by one Nyimchamo Tsopoe of Pongidong village in Wokha. The union accused him of trying to take the life of one Elithung Odyuo of New Riphyim village at the latter’s residence in Wokha town on January 21 around 10 am.  A note from the union condemned the alleged act and called upon all right-thinking citizens to step forward and condemn it too. The victim was seriously injured and is in critical condition, the union stated in the note, appended by its president Yansathung Odyuo.
