Longleng DPDB meet: DC seeks report on sub jail construction, proposes forming officers club

Longleng, June 10 (MExN): Longleng District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held on June 8 at the DC’s conference hall, Longleng.


Deputy Commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam, who chaired the meeting, appealed to the members to be aware and well prepared for the Lok Shabha election scheduled in the early part of 2019. He urged the HODs to instruct their employees for advance preparation for peaceful poll in the district, according to a DIPR report.


The DC also apprised the board members about proper plantation and utilization of 4000 saplings of trees supplied by the CMO through the forest department for World Environment Day 2018. He further inquired about incomplete sub-jail in the district and its status report from the department concerned. Acknowledging that jail department was not set up in the district due to incomplete construction of the sub-jail, the DC asked the Superintendent of Police, Longleng to inquire the status report from the PHQ to ascertain the reason behind slow progress of its construction. It was disclosed during discussion that shortage of fund was the reason for its slow progress, the release added.


In order to generate better co-ordination and understanding among the government officers posted in Longleng, the DC also proposed organizing ‘Officers Club of Longleng’ in the district. He asserted that besides having friendly atmosphere among the officers, Officers Club can encourage and take initiatives for the benefit of the people in many ways. A decision was made to discuss the matter in the next meeting


Dr. Bongau, Dentist, District Hospital Longleng submitted a proposal for creation of sub-centers and up-gradation of sub-centers and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under the district. After a brief discussion on the issue, the chairperson directed to resubmit the proposal with justification to ensure that proposal recommended is not turned down by the government and also to ensure that it benefits the people.


Meanwhile, Phom People’s Council (PPC) president, Chingan Phom requested the government officers to be regular in their place of posting for the welfare of the people. He also urged the officers to be active and come forward with proposals for development of the district. The officers were further urged to share their grievances and proposals turned down by the government with the PPC to pressurize the government for approval.


The DPO, Land Resources department, I Acato Chishi presented his departmental activities under Longleng. He informed that under Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP) promotion of coffee plantation was taken up in the district. In 2018, 45,000 saplings of coffee Arabica and 125,000 saplings of coffee Robusta were distributed to beneficiaries in 14 villages, while in 2017, 74,500 saplings of coffee Arabica were distributed to nine villages, it was stated.


On Springshed Development, Acato said out of the 104 micro watersheds in the district, 63 have been completed. He also stressed on cost norms of IWMP, training & demonstrations, micro enterprises, livelihood, organizing animal health camp and distribution of power tiller, etc.
