‘Make Mokokchung firecracker-free’

Mokokchung, January 2 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has urged the people of Mokokchung to make the town “Firecracker-free”.

“Mokokchung is known far and wide for a lot of her hometown festive season traditions for which we are all proud of, and we urge the people of Mokokchung to also make firecrackers-free festivities a hometown tradition,” the MCCI said in a press release on Tuesday.

While stating that it was pleased with the people of Mokokchung for not bursting firecrackers during Christmas time unlike previous years, the MCCI maintained that the lack of firecrackers “did not undermine the festivities in any manner nor did it dampen the spirits”.

“By not squandering our resources on firecrackers, Mokokchung in our estimates has not only saved tens of lakhs of rupees during the festive season but also kept ourselves from unwanted nuisance, unforeseen injuries, noise pollution and environmental hazards caused by unrepressed, reckless and wanton bursting of firecrackers as was evidenced during the previous years,” the MCCI said.

“By not bursting firecrackers during the festive season, we have saved a lot of resources that will do a lot of good to our own economy, for which we applaud the people of Mokokchung,” it added.

In this regard, the MCCI also extended its appreciation to all member traders for heeding to its clarion call not to supply or sell firecrackers during the last festive season. “It is our hope that the same practice would be seen in the following years too,” the MCCI stated and further wished the people of Mokokchung a happy and prosperous New Year.
