A man from Kerala was arrested by the Nagaland Police in connection to an alleged leaking of confidential government documents. As per reports, the man was arrested from his hometown in Kerala and brought to Nagaland on March 13.

Official sources while confirming the arrest said the person (name withheld) was wanted for interrogation in an investigation pertaining to unofficial circulation of “restricted government documents.” The documents were purportedly copies listing the “result” of a departmental recruitment exam.

While the precise date of the alleged occurrence or the date of the departmental exam was not specified, the sources said the result of the interview was circulated online (on social media) before it was officially/publicly declared.

Consequent upon an internal departmental probe, a suo moto case under the IT Act and relevant IPC sections was registered at the Cyber Police Station to probe the alleged leak. The sources maintained that the case was not filed against him but he was only wanted for the purpose of interrogation.

He reportedly refused to acknowledge initial summons to appear before the investigators as a result of which a “warrant of arrest” against him was applied in court. Subsequently, a cyber police team from Nagaland took him into custody and brought to Kohima.

While stating that he was in “police remand,” the sources maintained that no charges were filed against him.
