Mangmetong Baptist Church attains 100 years

Mangmetong, January 14 (MExN): The centenary celebration of the Mangmetong Baptist Arogo (church) began today at the MBC church here. The celebration is based on the theme ‘Christ my rock of ages’ and it will go on till Sunday, January 16.
Hundred of Managmetong villagers from all over the state and outside the state, and also invitees from other tribal churches are attending the three day programme. Nagaland Home Minister, Imkong L Imchen who hails from Mangmetong village, is also attending the centenary celebration of the MBC.
Formally announcing the centenary celebration open, the Executive Secretary of the Ao Baptist Church Council (ABAM), Rev O Alem said that jubilee is a time of revival – a time to renew the relations with God, with fellow human beings and with God’s creations. He also said that it is a time of forgiveness. However, one should sanctify oneself and be holy so that the centenary celebration will go on not only for a few days of celebration but also all through the year. Later, the ABAM executive secretary released the Centenary Souvenir book.
A moment of silence and prayer as a mark of respect to the departed souls of the village was also observed at tonight’s programme which was led by Rev N I Meren Jamir, ex-pastor Missionary, Borpothar, Assam.
However, the most significant aspect of the centenary celebration was the words of apology and seeking of forgiveness by the Mangmetong Yimpang Putu Menden for an incident that happened in 1965. It is said that the ‘Mangmetong Yimpang Putu Menden’ destroyed the ‘Revival Church building’ in 1965. In this connection, the ‘Mangmetong Yimpang Putu Menden’ sought forgiveness from God and humankind in the name of the centenary
celebration.
Other speakers of the programme included the chairman of the Mangmetong Village Council and MBC deacon, Tsüpong. Mangmetong Fellowship Mokokchung and the jubilee choir presented songs at the programme.
The main speakers at the programme include Rev Dr (Mrs) Narola Imchen, Prof at Eastern Theological College, Jorhat; Dr Lulen Jamir Administrator St John College Dimapur; Rev Kari Longchar NBCC Peace Director; Nuklu Phom Executive Secretary Phom Baptist Christian Association and Rev Luin Jamir, Ex-pastor Mokokchung ao Baptist Church.
Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen will also exhort the congregation on Saturday evening programme, January 15.
