Manipur CS on alleged threat to SC lawyer

Suresh Babu has said that preliminary investigations have begun to determine the veracity of the reported threat alleged by a Supreme Court lawyer, Utsav Singh Bains who is providing legal assistance to late Irom Roger’s family.   Bians, who has been assisting the family of Manipur road rage murder victim since 2011, alleged that he had been “threatened” to stay away from the case.  Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s son, Nongthombam Ajay, is an accused in the case.   While addressing a press conference held at the Chief Minster’s Secretariat today, Dr. Suresh Babu said that the State Government takes the news report appeared on some sections of the national and State media on the alleged threat received by lawyer Utsav Singh Bains seriously.   Maintaining that an SDPO-level officer had already started investigating the case, the senior bureaucrat officer contended that the State Government is even ready to hand over the case to National Investigation Agency (NIA) if required.   He further said that adequate security would be provided to the lawyer whenever he visits the State in connection with the case.   Taking part at the press conference, Director General of Police (DGP) L.M. Khaute said that within a few days, Manipur Police would be able to identify the points centering around the whole issue.   He further said that Manipur Police provided adequate security to Bains when he came to the State and will do the same in future as well.
