Manipur mulls new healthcare scheme

Newmai News Network Imphal | December 15   Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that his government is planning to introduce a new healthcare scheme ‘Hakshelgi Tengbang’(Manipur Health Protection Scheme) on January 1, 2018.   He said this while briefing media persons on the occasion of ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day) held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal today.   Hundreds of people turned up on the Meeyamgi Numit to share their grievances and the Chief Minister attended to over 600 complaints while personally meeting around 1500 people in a time span of 5 hours from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.   Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that healthcare scheme would provide cashless benefit of up to Rs.2 lakh per year per BPL/AAY family on floater basis.   He informed that five companies participated in the biding process and one company has been selected for providing the health insurance scheme to the poor and needy people of the State. The selected company in collaboration with the Panchayats/local clubs would conduct a joint survey for identifying the real/needy people.   Citing past instances of manipulations in issuing BPL cards, Biren informed that a fresh survey would begin soon in various areas of the State to identify the real/needy beneficiaries. If the government relies on the existing BPL/AAY card holders, than many real/needy people would be left out and might not get the benefits of the scheme, he maintained.
