Union Home minister Amit Shah will hold a discussion on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) with a joint delegation of civil society organisations and political parties on Tuesday night (December 3) in New Delhi. Manipur People Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 (MANPAC), the organisation spearheading the movement against CAB, will represent Manipur civil society organisations in the meeting.

Responding to the invitation of the Union Home minister for meeting, MANPAC said that it has accepted the invitation for a discussion on contentious CAB. "We are ready for leaving Imphal for the national capital tomorrow", a MANPAC leader said.

A nine-member delegation of MANPAC will be leaving Imphal for New Delhi for the proposed meeting, said MANPAC convener Yumnamcha Dilipkumar while addressing a press conference at AMUCO office in Imphal’s Kwakeithel on Monday afternoon. He also said that till Sunday's meeting with the state chief minister, the proposed meeting with Union Home minister was not confirmed even as the chief minister informed them that the state government had approached the Union Home ministry about the matter.

Mention may be made here that the Union Home minister had already held discussions on CAB with representatives of civil society organisations and political parties of other northeast states few days ago. However, civil society organisations and political parties of Manipur were not part of the discussion as they were not invited.

Dilipkumar said that chief minister N Biren Singh informed about the invitation of the Union Home minister only today (Monday) morning. The MANPAC leader then said that there is no question of the organisation reviewing its decision against CAB.

Some political parties are also all set to send their representatives to attend the meeting with the Union Home minister.

Congress and CPI Manipur State Council will send their representatives to take part in the meeting.
