Even as Manipur University Students Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) are all set to resume agitation after Vice Chancellor of Manipur, Prof AP Pandey “resumed his duty”, a notification from the Registrar of Manipur University said that the leave of the Vice Chancellor has been extended with effect from September 1 until completion of the inquiry proceedings against the later “and until necessary follow up action is taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority”.
Earlier, Prof AP Pandey had intimated the Registrar of Manipur University that he “has resumed his duty with immediate effect”.
The intimation had infuriated MUSU, MUTA and MUSA. The later groups have been coming out in the media threatening to resume their agitation unless “competent authority” takes action against Prof AP Pandey by September 4.
These bodies have “reaffirmed that Prof AP Pandey would not be allowed to resume the office of the VVCof Manipur University in any eventuality”.
It may be noted here that these three bodies lifted agitation after 85 days owing to the August 16 agreement. According to that agreement, Prof AP Pandey was supposed to be on leave during the enquiry period. They had also protested demanding enquiry into the “administrative and financial irregularities” in the management of the university. The agitating organizations also accused the Vice Chancellor of taking frequent leave.
