MBBS Seat Allocation: ENCSU seeks Governor’s intervention

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 21 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) today submitted a representation to the Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya on grievances faced by “backward tribes in general and eastern Nagas in particular.”

The ENCSU asked the Governor to intervene and look into the former’s demands regarding the NSEE-II Exam Result 2016 and allocation of MBBS seats. It requested the Governor to “give back” their “due share of 4 MBBS seats as the state government has failed miserably even after a lapse of 85 days.”

Terming the selection process to MBBS and BDS seats as unfair under the State government over the past few years, the ENCSU said that the same anomalies have been detected even this year. “The result which was declared by the Department Of Technical Education on 15th July, 2016 vide No.DTE/ESTT-2/12/2016-17/ failed to implement the Government policy on backward reservation by denying 4 MBBS seats to the students from deprived areas. Therefore, we seek an immediate review of the result and allocation of the 4 MBBS to the BT candidates,” it demanded.

The ENCSU expressed surprise that the government “is not in a position to rectify errors committed by some officials of the department for their own vested interests.” It further alleged that the government and the department “violated their own assurance given to the ENCSU on 6th September, 2016 not to fill up 4 (four) MBBS seats till the cabinet decides on this matter.”

The ENCSU opposed the decision of the cabinet to allocate 4 BDS seats as replacement against the 4 MBBS seats; and alleged that “there was deep rooted intention to deprive the BTs of MBBS seats.” “It is also a surprise to know that the department did not make known the 3 additional MBBS seats to the cabinet during its meeting,” the ENCSU said.

It said that the department advertised only the fourth additional MBBS seat, which was received after the cabinet meeting. Therefore, the ENCSU demanded that the department “come out openly” about the status of the first 3 additional MBBS seats.
