MDCA celebrates 25th anniversary

The Mokokchung District Cricket Association celebrated its silver jubilee today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung with a brief inaugural programme and the declaration of the MDCA Inter Club Cricket Tournament 2016.  

Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS), Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung and President, Mokokchung District Sports Council was the chief guest at the inaugural programme.  

Talking about Cricket as the gentlemen’s game, Patel said that it is a disciplined game adding that Cricket as a sport has more potential to provide opportunities and career than most other sports in India. He added that young talents who have the potential should take it to a higher level by using their talents.  

He concluded by congratulating the MDCA and all the officials on the historic event as they celebrate their 25th year of existence. Patel also released the MDCA silver jubilee souvenir.  

Er. Chubatoshi, president MDCA delivered the welcome address while Psaldomic Ensemble presented a special song. The inaugural function was followed by the MDCA Inter Club Cricket Tournament 2016 which was declared opened by the Chief Guest.  

Champions Titans kick off with a win

Mokokchung, January 4 (MExN): The Silver Jubilee Edition of MDCA Tournament kicked off today with defending champions Titans CC taking on ADC Tuli XI.  

After winning the toss, Tuli ADC XI elected to bat and managed to score 108 runs losing 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Pancha top scored with an unbeaten 43 while Imnakumba chipped in with 20 runs. Longsasunep led the Titans’ bowling attack and returned with figures of 3/19. Toshimeren also picked two wickets while giving away 15 runs.  

Chasing the small target, Titans went all guns blazing and got past the target in just 14.4 overs scoring 111 while losing 4 wickets. Akumdong top scored with 36 runs and was well supported by Toshimeren (27 not out) who played a fine captain’s knock in steering his team to victory.  

Lanukora was the pick of the bowlers for ADC Tuli XI returning with figures of 2/15. Limakumba and Jungshi took 1 wicket each. Titans CC have won the last three editions of the MDCA tournament – the only club to have achieved the feat in MDCA’s history of 25 years.
