MDFA 2019: Alempang YA register crucial win; Zonipang cruise to QFs

Alempang YA registered a crucial win today over Mongolian Brothers by 4-1 to keep their hopes alive in the tournament to make it forward from the unpredictable Pool B.

 Every team in the group has mathematical possibility to proceed to the knockout stages after the second leg of their round robin, including Mongolian Brothers despite facing two losses in as many games. Yangerjungba and Imkongyanger scored a goal each while Noksangmeren scored twice for Alempang. Moachang of Mongolian Brothers also scored a consolation goal.

In the day’s second match, Pool C runaway leaders Zonipang cruised to the quarter finals by easing past a lackluster Unicorn FC by 5 goals, all of which came in the second half of the match. Zonipang skipper Chubangangnen was first to open the account, which was followed by a 4-goal rapid fire from the boots of striking midfielder Suponglemba. With the day’s result, Unicorn FC ended their doleful participation in the tournament conceding 15 goals in three matches without scoring a single goal.
