MDLSA holds seminar with DBs

Mon, July 2 (MExN): Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted one-day seminar with Dobashis (DBs) at DBs Court, Mon on July 1.  

Speaking on rules and practices in the court, Inalo Zhimomi, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary MDLSA acknowledged the influence of the DBs over the general public.  

He also exhorted them to spread the message and concept of legal aid and how one can avail legal aid for free.  

Neiko Kanuo, District and Session Judge and Chairman MDLSA spoke on the Rules for Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland, 1937 and how the DBs derive their judicial powers from the said rules.  

He highlighted how the High Court and Supreme Court had upheld the validity and correctness of the judgment passed by the DBs with regard to customary laws.  

The Chairman further apprised DBs to follow the rules and also warned that political assistant to DC is not court under the rules, informed a press release.  

Vito Chishi, APP cum Government pleader spoke on the principle of natural justice, while head DB Mon also apprised about how customary court functions.  

This was followed by discussion session. The programme was chaired by Tingkai, Para Legal Volunteer. Altogether, 21 DBs from Mon attended the seminar.  

Meanwhile on the same day, Mezivolu T. Therieh, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) along with Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers visited Legal Aid Clinic Kiusam and interacted with the resident PLVs on their roles and responsibilities. The KDLSA also distributed stationeries and legal literature.
