MDTOA flays PWD EE; to go ahead with chakka bandh

No commercial vehicles to Mokokchung from November 21

Mokokchung, November 19, (MExN): The Mokokchung District Truck Owners’ Association (MDTOA) today said that it is “totally appalled over the blatant lie of the Executive Engineer, PWD National Highway Division – II Mokokchung,” and decided to go ahead with its porposed ‘chakka bandh’ from November 21.

A press release issued by MDTOA President Sangyumongba Ao and General Secretary Imtisumak stated that the aforesaid Engineer allegedly “gave a false report about the road condition of the National Highway 702D (Marani – Mokokchung road)” to the Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner (DC) stating that,“The vehicles are plying very well.”

The MDTOA officials, along with representatives from the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) and Mokokchung District Pick-up Truck Union, went for an on-spot inspection and found that the official letter by the EE to the DC, Mokokchung was “nothing but a blatant lie,” it said.

“The road condition is not only pathetic but also dangerous to ply,” it noted.

Strongly censuring the letter, the Association also cautioned “the Executive Engineer not to mislead the public, or for that matter the Deputy Commissioner, on such important issue where lives and livelihood of the people are at stake.”

In this regard, the MDTOA also conveyed its refusal to to accept a letter from the DC, Mokokchung on November 17 requesting the Association “to extend your deadline to 10 (Ten) more days’ since the concerned department is putting their best effort for the improvement of the Mokokchung-Mariani road.”

MDTOA also maintained that it had undertaken the roads-inspection and no road improvement works were visible.

It further pointed out that MDTOA has given a Memorandum on October 30 with regard to the same issue but there was no official reply from the District Administration.   Consequently, the Association served an ultimatum on November 14 giving the concerned authorities till November 20 to improve the road, it said.

“Since there is no tangible improvement, and the apparent lackadiscal attitude of the concerned authorities, and the blatant lie of the Executive Engineer PWD, Mokokchung, the MDTOA will be going for a chakka bandh from Tuesday, November 21, 2017,” the Association informed.

No commercial vehicles – trucks and pick-ups trucks - will ply on the Mokokchung – Mariani and Mokokchung- Amguri roads during the bandh, it added.

While acknowledging the imminent plight of the people due to the chakka bandh, the Association requested the general public to “kindly bear with the inconveniences caused.”

The MDTOA further asserted that the trucks owners are incurring heavy losses due to the bad road conditions as the vehicle cannot carry their full loads and had to undergo heavy repairing after every trip.

It also lauded the the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem and the Mokokchung District Pick-up Trucks Union for their kind understanding and their “selfless support towards the just demand of the MDTOA.”
