Measles immunization campaign underway

Phek, February 7 (MExN): Measles immunization Catch-Up Campaign kick started at Phek District at the CMO Office on February 7 with the theme “The Right Vaccine, at the Right Time! Blessing for a healthy life.”
Phek District Media Officer, Mhonchan Tungoe in a press release stated that Rev D.N. Soho, Pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Phek inaugurated and blessed the campaign which will continue till 26th February 2011. Dr. Khriezotou (DIO) stated that, Measles Immunization Catch-up campaign is a special campaign to vaccinate all children in a wide age group with measles vaccine who have completed 9 months to below 10 years of age in a State. The goal of the Catch-up campaign is to quickly make the population immune from measles and reduce deaths from measles, because measles kills nearly 100,000 children every year in India. Measles is a highly infectious diseases, it is caused by virus. It spreads from person to person through coughing, sneezing etc. A person having measles shows symptoms of fever and rash, cough or running nose or redness of eyes.
During the inaugural function official dignitaries present were Dr. Tia (MS), Dr. C. W. Tungoe (Dy. CMO), Dr. Khriezotou (DIO).
