Mech Kachari community celebrates Magh Utsav

Dimapur, January 13 (DIPR): The Mech Kachari community of Purana Bazaar, Dimapur celebrated Magh Utsav, post harvest festival, on January 13 at Mandevilla Garden here.  

Speaking as the special guest on the occasion, Literacy Secretary of United Boro People’s Organization, Prodip Swargiary noted that Boro and Mech communities have different cultures and traditions, yet brotherly relationship exists between the two communities. He exhorted them to live in peace with unity.  

Chairman of Mech Kachari Development Council Assam, Krishna Kanta Mech, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, congratulated the community for preserving their tradition and culture. Mech Kachari Development Council Assam which was established in 2007 is not only for the welfare of Assam but for the whole of Mech community, he said.   Informing that the present cultural dress of Mech community has been discovered from London Museum, he called upon the Mech community for preservation of the unique cultural traditions.  

Mech Advisor, MKCPB Phonidhar dwelt on the significance of the festival.
