Meghalaya Mahila Cong protests against rising fuel prices

Newmai News Network Shillong | September 8 The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) voiced its protest against the rising prices of fuel in the country through a demonstration which saw a number of placards and slogans against the BJP-led NDA government.   Speaking to media persons, MPMC president, Joplin Scot Shylla said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has broken all the promises he made and came to power in 2014.   The state Mahila Congress chief pointed out the fact that the government is selling petrol to countries like England and Australia at the rate of Rs 37 a litre but in its own country the citizens are suffering when the same petrol is sold at the rate of Rs 78-79. She added that the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas has affected every household in the state.   “We are demanding the government to decrease the price of diesel and cooking gas so that the common man’s budget will not be affected,” Shylla said. She also added that the party will write to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to reduce the VAT on petrol.   Meanwhile, the mahila president also hit out at the Narendra Modi government for failing to give security to the women of the country. “Crime against women is increasing day by day all over India. They are being raped, they are being murdered. So where is the safety of women?” Shylla questioned.
