Meghalaya orgs to observe Black Flag Day over ILP

Shillong, April 15 (NNN): With no headway being made on its demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Meghalaya, the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has decided to observe black flag day on April 23.

CoMSO is a conglomerate of several organisations in Meghalaya.

This decision was arrived at during a meeting of the confederation led by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) held on April 13.

CoMSO vice chairman, Nikman Ch Marak in a statement issued here on Monday informed that the Black Flag Day will be observed by member organisations across the state.

“The Black Flag Day is the beginning of our agitations against the adamant attitude of the state government towards the demand for the immediate implementation of the ILP to check influx and illegal immigration into the state,” he said.

Marak recalled that the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong had assured a delegation of the confederation that the state government would take necessary action. In spite of this assurance, Marak observed that ‘nothing’ has been done in this regard.

He said that the confederation will soon announce other programmes of agitation to further pressurise the government to implement the ILP in the state.

“We appeal to the people of the state to wear black badges or put black flags on their vehicles as a mark of protest against this failure of the government,” Marak added.
