Meghalaya Youth Congress president, Richard Mrong Marak today said that the National People's Party (NPP) can never claim to represent the Garo, Khasi Jaintia people, and the indigenous/tribal peoples of North East.

“The fact that lone MP of NPP Agatha Sangma voted in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, the National People's Party (NPP) can never claim to represent the Northeast people because they represent only themselves,” Marak said on Monday.

“NPP should stop fooling the people and openly join the BJP "because NPP is BJP," he added.

“The NPP is non-performing party, and there is no comparison between Mukul Sangma government and any other previous government with this Conrad led government,” Marak further charged.

“The MDA government is so confused and they don’t know what they are doing,” he said.

Informing that the Congress party will carry out various protests against the CAA and several issues in the coming days, Marak also said that the Congress party will also hold protest programmes against the CAA on January 21 on the occasion of Meghalaya day.

He then said that the Youth Congress will also join the agitation programmes that will be carried out by various organisations in the state.

“We want to unite the people because the CAA is a threat to the indigenous people of the Northeast,” he said adding that the Congress demanded a fresh mandate and will not allow the "divide and rule tactic" of the BJP.

He then lambasted the MDA government on the load shedding factor and stated that in Garo Hills there is load shedding of four-five hours every morning without any declaration of the dates and hours of power cut in the area.
He said the power cut scenario is worst in the rural area of Garo Hills.

He also said that till date the National People’s Party (NPP)-led State Government has failed to respond to the manipulation of the terms and conditions in the bidding documents of the Saubhagya scheme which is 100 percent rural electrification scheme.
