Metal wire allegedly found in bhujiya; NVCO writes to manufacturing company

Kohima, January 13 (MExN): Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) has written an open letter to the manufacturing company of Wai Wai 'ma ma' Bhujiya following a complaint received from a consumer.   The letter from NVCO Press & Media Cell informed that on January 11, the Nagaland State Consumer Helpline received a call from Shillong through its Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701 complaining that a metal wire of about 3 cm long was found inside Wai Wai 'ma ma' Bhujiya chicken flavoured (Hot & Spicy).   The complainant teaches in one of the private colleges in Nagaland, it was informed.   According to NVCO, the Helpline advised him to approach the authority concerned within the jurisdiction, i.e., Shillong, and to take up the issue seriously.   Lamenting that manufacturers are expert in giving excuses when it comes to solving problems, it pointed out they provide Toll Free numbers which do not serve purpose and also it is “very frustrating to approach the nodal officer.”   The organization asserted it is high time the public/consumers should stand up and raise their voice and initiate necessary actions against such illegality.   It asked the management concerned of WAI WAI 'ma ma' to take note that “it is due to carelessness on their part that a metal wire was found inside the product which is a very serious case and it may even kill the consumer.”   The president of NVCO Kezhokhoto Savi, who is also the Project Manager of Nagaland State Consumer Helpline, informed that the helpline is a central project run by the Government of Nagaland, particularly the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection in collaboration with NVCO. It provides counseling on all products and services and will develop database information relating to the State, it said. The only consumer helpline in the state, the helpline office situated at D-Block, Kohima has been receiving calls from all over the districts, it was informed.
