Micro Credit Plan process under NRLM initiated in Nagaland

NIRD resource persons and NSRLM staff facilitate a Micro Credit Plan exercise with SHGs being carried out at Aoyimkum Village, Chumukedima, Dimapur on Thursday.

Kohima, March 14 (MExN): A key component of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) for Self Help Groups is the Micro Credit Plan (MCP). Under Micro Credit Plan, each member of a Self Help Group would come up with a Household Investment Plan (HIP) and the Micro Credit Investment Plan, which is an aggregate of all the household investment plans of all the SHG members. The Plan would address members’ investment needs for income generation and is a process oriented document. The MCP is being initiated in Nagaland as a pilot exercise at Aoyimkum Village, Chumukedima, Dimapur.

Resource persons from NIRD MRLM Resource Cell, Hyderabad T. Ravinder Rao, K. Venkateshwar Rao and P. Umapathi are currently in Nagaland to impart Training of Trainers on Micro Credit Plan for Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) staff at AIDA Dimapur.

As part of the training process that began on March 11, MCP exercises were carried out with four Self Help Groups at Aoyimkum Village on March 13 and 14. Resource persons gave thorough explanation on the importance of making Micro Credit Plans to the SHG members present at the village. Staff of NSRLM sat with each group for preparation of MCP formats that include; SHG Profile, Socio-economic Status of SHGs, Income and Expenditure graph of individual SHG members and Micro Credit Investment Plan for each SHG etc.
The four SHGs that have undertaken the exercise are Molunglar, Anitet, Kolangmener and Longmen. Intensive training and dissemination of information is still required for most SHGs in Nagaland as lack of proper documentation has been a hindrance in extracting necessary information. Once MCPs are carried out by SHGs facilitated by trained staff, other programmes under the Mission can be more easily and readily implemented.
