Mission Indradhanush: Peren dist sees resistance to immunization in first round

Peren, November 6 (MExN): The Peren District Task Force meeting on Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) was held on November 3 at Deputy Commissioner’s chamber, District HQ New Peren.  

Chaired by Zarenthung, Deputy Commissioner (Chairperson, District Task Force Committee), the meeting was attended by officials from Chief Medical Officer’s office, Social Welfare, Administration, and ZBA representative.  

The DC requested CDPO Peren to instruct the Anganwadi workers and supervisors to carry out the head count survey of Peren Town, which he said is the need of the hour for tracking children for immunization, informed a press release. He also said official letter will be sent to all the village councils to get the children immunized who have been left out and to avail the government initiative for free immunization till January 2018 to decrease child mortality and protect the children from various diseases.  

Dr. Khrielasanuo, DPO, RCH/UIP highlighted the last month performance of IMI carried out in the district and stated there was a lot of resistance from the people. She said out of the target population 455 children, 288 children were immunized and 167 are still to be immunized.  

Stating that there was only 60% coverage in the first round of IMI, she stressed on the need to mobilize the people for immunization. Churches, she said, play a vital role and thus requested them in disseminating the right information on immunization to the public in general.  

Meanwhile, Thuanbui Newme, Accountant, ZBA opined that intensive awareness should be created and urged all associations in the district to work together for the success of the programme.  

In the concluding remark, the chairperson spoke about airing message on IMI in local Zeliang dialect on AIR to create awareness and clear the misconceptions relating to immunization.
