AIZAWL | NOVEMBER 20

Security measures have been enhanced in Aizawl as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the city on Thursday to campaign.

BJP leaders said that the Prime Minister will address a BJP rally at Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl. Narendra Modi is likely to be accompanied by atleast three Union ministers and BJP national leaders to the Aizawl campaign.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has threatened to stage agitation when Modi visits Aizawl on November 22.

Congress spokesperson Lallianchhunga told reporters that the party would use all its resources to oppose the Prime Minister’s visit. He said that the Congress was not happy after the AICC president Rahul Gandhi was denied the Assam Rifles Ground for public rally. The MPCC alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was responsible for the problem.

Lallianchhunga said that the state Congress party on Sunday wrote to the Election Commission complaining about the “discriminatory policy” of 23 sector Assam Rifles in allotment of the Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl. He also said that the Congress applied for the ground much before the BJP did.

Mizoram goes to the poll on November 28 and the results will be declared on December 11.
