The Mizoram government has withdrawn empanelment of 15 private hospitals for allegedly failing to implement a healthcare scheme, according to Mizoram Health minister Dr R Lalthangliana who informed this on December 5.

The minister said that the government by an order on Wednesday removed 15 private and mission hospitals, including Synod Hospital at Durtlang in Aizawl from the empanel list for failing to implement Mizoram State Health Care Scheme (MSHCS). He also said that the meeting of Health and Family Welfare Board held on Wednesday reviewed the State Health Care Scheme, which has been implemented all over the state since October 1.

Lalthangliana, who is also the chairman of Health and Family Welfare Board said that at least 12 private and church sponsored hospitals have implemented the state health care scheme apart from government hospitals. He further said that efforts are on to implement the health care scheme in all the hospitals.

According to the Health minister, the government is mulling to converge both MSHCS and Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) as suggested by Mizoram State Health Care Society Governing Board.

He then expressed hope that medical reimbursement or expenses, which could not be met under the AB-PMJAY scheme could be covered with notified rate of the state Health Care Scheme. Lalthangliana also said that the duration for registration under the MSHCS has been extended.

The Mizoram State Health Care Scheme was launched on October 1 by chief minister Zoramthanga. Under this scheme, beneficiaries are provided health insurance of up to Rs 2 lakh cover in a year. The scheme also covers BPL and APL families not covered under AB-PMJAY and family members of government servants, who are not entitled to medical assistance.

Beneficiaries who receive treatments outside the state can also claim reimbursement, including conveyance under the scheme.
