The Mizoram government has decided to open southern campus of Mizoram University from the next academic session, which likely to begin from July this year, Higher and Technical Education minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana told the state assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a question from ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) member Zothantluanga, the minister said that classes for the southern campus will commence once approval is received from Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

“I am hopeful that classes will begin from 2020-21 academic session,” he said.

Lalthangliana also said that the government is expecting land from Pukpui village council for the southern campus.

He said that the Centre had in January informed Mizoram University vice chancellor KRS Sambasiva Rao that a proposal to establish Mizoram University southern campus has been approved in “principle.”
