In an effort to encourage Mizo youth to join Indian civil services, the Mizoran Youth Commission (MYC) has decided to give sponsorship to IAS aspiring candidates, MYC chairman Vanlaltanpuia said  on Sunday. He also said that Mizoram has been facing shortage of "Mizo IAS officers" as no new recruits were made since the past few years.

“The move is to boost the mood and encourage Mizo students to join and recruit themselves in IAS and other central services as much as possible,” he further said.

Vanlaltantpuia, who is also the sitting legislator of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) from Lunglei North constituency, said the commission conducted selection test in Aizawl on Friday and 38 candidates have appeared for the test. Another selection test will also be held in New Delhi on Friday, he further said. He added that results of the selection test will be declared on March 15 and selected candidates will be inducted at a function to be held on March 17.

The selected test was held for those students, who have filled forms for  UPSC Civil Services Preliminary examination, 2020, he said. He added that financial assistance would be given to the aspiring candidates.

The MYC was set up by an Act of the Mizoram State Legislature in 2008. It has been given statutory responsibility for promotion, exploration and embracement of youth welfare. The commission concentrates its activity in providing coaching and guidance for 'all India services' and State services. The commission has been making massive efforts to provide jobs and recruitment to youths in central service, corporate and commercial banks. So far the commission has provided jobs to 207 youths of which 151 were employed within the state while the rest got jobs outside the state.

In January, the commission had disbursed incentive cash award amounting to Rs 70 lakh to 147 students, who successfully cleared various competitive exams. The incentive cash award, a pilot project of the state’s flagship programme- Socio Economic Development Policy (SEDP), is to encourage students to enroll themselves in central, military and bank services.
