Mkg, Peren forest div celebrate Wildlife week

In tune with the observation of wildlife week from October 2-8 across the country, Forest Division Mokokchung conducted a programme under the theme “Big Cats - predators under threat” at Government Middle School Sungkomen on October 8.  

I Sashimenla, Forest Ranger, Mokokchung range highlighted the observance of wildlife week and the theme relating to it.  

A quiz competition was also organized for the students where they were divided into four groups which was conducted by Tiatemsula, Forester-I, Mokokchung Range and assisted by Sungdienla, Forest Guard, Mokokchung Range.  

T. Aochuba Ao, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung gave a brief speech, highlighting the meaning of wildlife, and the importance and necessity of conserving them.  

The programme was chaired by I Sashimenla, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Aosungla Imsong, Forester-I, Mokokchung Range.  

PEREN: Peren Forest Division celebrated the weeklong wildlife week at Jalukie Forest Resource Centre, Jalukie from October 2-8.  

Dr Sentitula. IFS, DFO Peren delivering her keynote address reminded that wildlife was decreasing in the forest but increasing in the towns as rightly pointed by the father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi. She asserted “Humans give your hands towards conservation, not to destroy them” and added that there is a big disconnect between learning and practice.  

She challenged the students that future belongs to younger generation and encouraged to learn, love and live with wildlife.  

Earlier, Eco-Clubs under Peren district presented their Annual Eco-club activity in the form of painting during the programme. 67 schools participated in the competition.  

A movie screening on “Facts about Tigers” was shown later. Punseni Khing, Range Officer Jalukie before the screening of the movie briefed about the highlights of the movie explaining the basis of prey-predators relationship, the life cycle and nature of the big cat and its need to conservation. There was an open quiz competition based on the movie.
