MMRVCF issues May 15 deadline to blacklist contractor

Cautions to initiate agitation or public interest litigation

Mokokchung, May 1 (MExN): Mokokchung to Mariani Roadside Villagers Concern Forum (MMRVCF) has issued a May 15 deadline to the Commissioner & Secretary, PWD (NH), Nagaland to take action with regard to the construction work within IRQP Km 50 to Km 63 on NH 702D.

The Forum has demanded that the contractor concerned be put under blacklist immediately and the road construction work be resumed on or before May 15. Failure to fulfill the two demands, it cautioned to take action in the interest of the public after May 15.

In a letter to the Commissioner & Secretary, MMRVCF convenor Imchawati Kichu stated that an agreement was made between the government and the contractor M/S. Z. Rulho to complete the work on the above mentioned stretch of road on or before April 30, 2018.

“However, the contractor executed the work initially and removed all the labours and machineries from the spot in the middle of March 2018. As such the undersigned (MMRVCF) and the contractor made an agreement in the presence of executive Engineer PWD (NH) Div-II Mokokchung wherein the contractor promised to complete the work within the limited period of April 2018 but the same agreement was ignored by the contractor,” the letter highlighted.

The contractor, it alleged, “intentionally neglected” execution of work till April 30, 2018.

In view of the above, the Forum submitted a petition to the Chief Engineer, PWD (NH) Nagaland on April 23, where it suggested keeping the said contractor under blacklist. However, till date the government department concerned has not taken any action upon the contractor, it lamented.

“Therefore, the said contractor should be put under the blacklist immediately otherwise the undersigned (MMRVCF) and the public shall take necessary course of action in the interest of the public after May 15, 2018,” it cautioned.

In case of failure to start the work on or before May 15 by the department concerned, it further warned that the public will take the agitation or public interest litigation in a competent forum whichever deem fit.
