Mokokchung: 35 candidates to contest in 10 constituencies

Mokokchung, February 14 (DIPR): A total of 35 candidates from different political parties including independent candidates will be contesting in 10 constituencies under Mokokchung district during the up-coming General Election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 2018.  

Of the 10 A/Cs under Mokokchung District, multi-cornered contest will be witnessed at 21 Tuli A/C, with 7 candidates followed by 24 Angetyongpang A/C (5 candidates), 22 Arkakong A/C (4 candidates), 27 Mokokchung Town A/C (4 candidates) and in the rest A/Cs there will be triangular and straight contest, 25 Mongoya A/C (3 candidates), 28 Koridang A/C (3 candidates), 29 Jangpetkong A/C (3 candidates), 23 Impur A/C (2 candidates), 30 Alongdaki A/C (2 candidates), 26 Aonglenden A/C (2 candidates).  

NPF stalwart L. Imkong Imchen is lock in a triangular contest in 28- Koridang A/C while, former Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Alemtemshi Jamir is contesting from two constituencies, 24 Angetyongpang and 25 Mongoya A/Cs.  

On the last day for withdrawal of candidature the 12th February, 2018, INC candidate T. Lima Jamir who filed his nomination from 26 Aonglenden A/C withdrew his candidature.  

Second phase training for polling officials

The second phase of training for polling officials of Mokokchung to conduct the upcoming General election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly will be held on February 15 and 16 at Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung. On February 15 training will be conducted for 2nd, 3rd and 4th Polling officers from 9:30 A.M and on February 16 training will held for Presiding Officers and 1st Polling Officers. Training will be conducted by master trainers from Fazl Ali College, DIET and Post Graduate Teachers from Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung.  

General Observers brief candidates & election agents

A co-ordination cum briefing session on Election Expenditures Monitoring for the intending Candidates , Election Agents, Ward and Village authorities from Mokokchung District was held at ADC (Planning) Conference Hall, Mokokchung on February 13.  

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal IAS in his keynote stated that the meeting was convened to have a better co-ordination between all the stakeholders for a free, fair and peaceful conduct of election in the District.  

The General Observers while expressing their satisfactions on the overall situation in the district, called for a free, fair and peaceful Election in the District. Expenditure Observers for the District briefed the intending Candidates and the Election agents about monitoring of Election Expenditures as laid down in the guidelines of Election Commission of India (ECI).Police Observer briefed about Security arrangement and general preparedness for peaceful election.
