Mon, March 29 (MExN): The Mon District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) meeting was held under the chairmanship of Thavaseelan K, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, at DC Conference Hall on March 28.
According to a press release, the Deputy Commissioner, in his welcome note, acknowledged the participation of government departments, civil societies, churches, students, NGOs, medical and paramedics in the Committee and called upon the members to share their activities and views to effectively implement the HIV prevention and control programme in the district.
Longyim Tzudir, District Programme Officer, DAPCU Mon highlighted overall activities carried out by DAPCU and partners towards HIV and AIDS prevention and control in the district (NSACS support) during the year 2017-18 and shared some key agenda for future actions.
During the open interaction, the need for leadership training of block/village level on HIV and AIDS was discussed where support from key sectors such as DRDA, Social Welfare Department, Education department, District Public Relation Officer, Churches Association and District Legal Services Authority are targeted to collaborate for carrying out the proposed activities successfully.
In regard to Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD), the members acknowledged the Mon District Voluntary Blood Donors Association and Red Ribbon Club for their selfless contribution and encouraged them to carry out more sensitization programme among the targeted group.
The members from Outreach Gospel Ministry have also shared some of the voluntary services rendered for Drug addicts including Opium through organizing Free Detox camp and shared their plan to organize another free detox camp in May 2018 at Mon where they have requested the district administration and partners to extend support for the programme.
Dr.Yingnei K, MO I/c ICTC & LAC+ DH while briefing on treatment services for PLHIV, mentioned that due to poor financial condition, many PLHIV could not avail facilities particularly outside Mon.
Dr. Tiasunep, DTO, briefly shared about the HIV-TB collaboration while OST services and the need for more OST centres in Mon district was shared by Ingaupeule, OST Counsellor DH.
