Kohima/Bhubaneswar, March 14 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya today expressed grief at the demise of former minister, Chenlom Phom on March 13 after a prolonged illness. In a condolence message to his wife, Chubasenla Chenlom Chenth, Acharya stated that Late Chenlom Phom’s contribution as a public leader in various positions for the welfare of the people of Nagaland will be ever remembered. “As a person he was friendly, cheerful and fatherly and protective towards the younger generation. Many will feel a sense of personal loss on hearing this sad news and this feeling will continue with them for a long time,” he added. The Governor conveyed heartfelt condolences to all family members and prayed to the Almighty to grant strength and solace to bear the “irreparable loss.”
SC Jamir: In a separate condolence message, Governor of Odisha, Dr. SC Jamir said he and his wife were deeply shocked to hear the passing away of Chenlom Phom. “I know him very intimately as we were working together in the service of the people in the most trying time. He was a very committed and determined leader, who used to speak out his mind without any reservation,” recounted Jamir. “The people of Phom were very dear and near to his heart. He had contributed a lot towards the upliftment of the tribe he represented.” Stating that the Naga people had lost a veteran politician in his demise, the Odisha Governor said his death will be a great loss to the Phom people in particular. Jamir and his wife conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarian Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has also expressed shock over the demise of Chenlom Phom. A condolence message from EX-PAN president, T. Khongo read, “Late Chenlom Phom was a man of vision and a dynamic public leader who dedicated his life for the dignity and integrity amongst the Naga brothers and sisters. His death has caused a great loss to the Nagas in general and Phom Community in particular and the void created by him will be difficult to fill.” It also mentioned that Late Chenlom Phom was elected Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly for five terms and served as Minister for Education, Jail, Relief & Rehabilitation; Deputy Speaker; Speaker; Minister for Geology & Mining and Art & Culture; Minister for Fisheries, Printing & Stationery and Advisor, Backward Areas.
