MTLT seeks clarification on Power Dept’s list of defaulters; says Mkg citizens pay bill every month

Mokokchung, December 1 (MExN): The Mokokhcung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) today said it was shocked to read about the colonies and villages defaulting in power bill payment till October 17, which appeared as advertised in local dailies.

A press note from the MTLT acknowledged the difficulties that the Department of Power might be undergoing as highlighted by the Association of Power Engineers Nagaland (APEN) and the shortage of funds from the government.   However, the MTLT expressed surprise that all the colonies under Mokokchung town have been listed as “defaulters” in the list published by the Department of Power.

In this regard, the MTLT said that citizens of Mokokchung town have been paying their bills every month regularly.

“As far as the MTLT is concerned, the citizens (or for that matter, the power consumers of Mokokchung town), have been paying their due bills every month diligently. In fact, those who cannot pay their electric bills on time, have to pay with a fine. Likewise, we have been demanding proper power supply in consonance with our payment of the bills,” it informed.

It termed the publication of all the wards under Mokokchung town as “somewhat confusing, if not interesting.”

As such, the MTLT demanded that the Power Department and the concerned Urban Electricity Management Board(s) (UEMB) clarify on this matter to the public.

“The people of Mokokchung town pay their bills regularly and therefore the people have a right to know how, where and when ‘our’ bills were utilized,” it stated.
