Muslim body 'socially' boycotts Manipur Deputy Chief Minister

Newmai News Network Imphal | October 1 Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has announced today to “socially” boycott Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar for not taking action against his son Yumnam Devjit over the Facebook post controversy.   Last month, Yumnam Devjit Singh had reportedly posted on his Facebook saying the practice of 'Kurbani' (slaughter of animals) during Muslim festivals as "practicing to kill human beings".   Speaking to media persons today at its office located at Hatta in Imphal, MMWO vice president KM Boboy announced that the Muslim community in Manipur has "socially" boycotted Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar. He added that the boycott will remain as long as the Deputy Chief Minister does not take action against his son.   MMWO then said that it will start campaigning against National Political Party (NPP), the party which the Deputy Chief Minister belongs to, in any election. Boboy appealed to the Muslim community not to invite Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar in any Muslim programme. He also said that the Muslims in Manipur will not treat the Deputy Chief Minister as the leader of Manipur. He then asked the Muslims not to contest elections from NPP ticket.   Last month on several occasions, MMWO had demanded the arrest of Yumnam Devjit, son of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar. The AMMWO had also demanded the resignation of the Deputy Chief Minister from his post on moral ground.   Since September 6, Muslims in Manipur have been protesting over the issue.   Earlier, Muslims under the joint banner of Mayang Imphal unit of Popular Front of India (PFI) and Bengon Youth Development Association had carried out a protest rally demanding the arrest of Y Devjit and also the resignation of his father Y Joykumar on moral ground.
