Underground organization Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) today claimed responsibility for explosion that occurred at the private residence of Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA Samuel Risom, which also houses NPF office, on August 28 at Deulahlane in Imphal.

“If the state unit of NPF was working in the interest of Naga people, such incidents would not have taken place. The organisation had exploded the bomb in the interest of the Nagas,” stated a statement released by MNPF Assistant Publicity Secretary, Thomas Numai.

It said the attack by the front was not meant to target civilians, and that it does not want occurrence of such incidents. The outfit claimed that NPF candidates who came out victorious in the last state assembly election were not choice of the Naga electorate.

MNPF claimed that the NSCN (IM) used force against the people to vote in favour of the NPF candidates in the election and everybody knows it well.

Further, the outfit claimed that it had triggered the blast at the NPF MLA’s residence and the political party’s office to warn against it to stop using NSCN (IM) as a “tool to force and kill, harass and threaten Naga people” again in the upcoming state assembly election.

“NPF should not make the same mistake this time. The political party must stop hiring NSCN (IM) cadres to win election by its candidates in the ensuing election. Should the party continue to indulge in the practice, there will be more intense violence,” the outfit warned.

It may be recalled here that the Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) in yesterday's statement blamed the NSCN (IM) "for creating an atmosphere of increasing feeling of disunity amongst the Naga peoples by adopting violent means" particularly during election time in the state.

A press statement released by MNPF Assistant Publicity Secretary, Thomas Numai alleged that the NSCN (IM) often indulges in killing, physical torture and threatening of Naga peoples while putting up candidates “selected by the outfit” in election.

“The NSCN (IM) has been violating human rights, which has contributed in lowering the level of unity among Naga peoples. The outfit’s interference in electoral politics does not work in the common interest of the Naga peoples but rather a selfish attempt to conquer the Naga peoples through gun power,” the statement alleged.

It vowed to work towards getting rid of such a culture adopted by NSCN (IM) and clarified that MNPF has so far not got involved in any Indian election in support of any political party or candidates.

The MNPF also vowed to fight against any move that aimed at suppressing the Naga peoples from any angle whatsoever. It declared that aspiring candidates who try to contest the upcoming Manipur Assembly polls on the ticket of Naga People’s Front (NPF) with the help of NSCN (IM) will be considered as “anti-Naga policy.”

“Harsh action will be taken against such people in the interest of the Nagas. If NSCN (IM) is found attacking and threatening workers of other political parties and candidates, MNPF will strike back against those who are supported by the former,” the statement said.   It also appealed that any form of action taken by MNPF under such circumstances should not be misunderstood by the people.
