Naga student researchers attend Nobel Prize Series India 2017

Kohima, February 24 (MExN): The Nobel Prize Series India 2017 on the theme ‘Science Impact Lives’ organized by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India was held from January 9 to 13 at Science City Gandhinagar, Gujarat.   This series aims to bring together Nobel Laureates, Indian scientists and other eminent scientists around the world together to impart scientific thinking. The series was graced by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India and was attended by Nobel Prize Laureate from different fields and disciplines across the world.

Along with other young scientists and researchers across India, two student researchers from Kohima Science College, (autonomous) Jotsoma, attended the series with their research ideas.

Zenwang Konyak, B. Sc 1st year presented on ‘Enhancement of Secondary Growth in Dicotyledonous Stem’. The enhancement of secondary growth in dicotyledonous stem mainly aims to enhance the cell division of the cambium which helps in the proper growth of the plant stem increasing in girth/thickness of a plant through a process by injecting the prepared chemical substance.

Another research idea on “To Extract Water or Latex from Dicotyledonous Stem by INSERT IGNOREing Absorption Devices” was presented by Peihauding of B. Sc 2nd Year. The extracted material is 100% purely organic which can be beneficial for making medicines and in various fields. The extraction by INSERT IGNOREing absorption devices also reduces the cutting down of tress which is a great cause of Global warming.

A press release from the college informed that the two student researchers from Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma were awarded a certificate along with a medal for their innovative research idea.
