Pungro, September 13 (MExN): The 8th Thanamir Apple festival, organised by the Thanamir Village Council in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture was held on September 13 at the public ground Thanamir with special guest, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs.


A DIPR report stated that addressing the gathering, Yanthan said that Thanamir was created in such a special way by God with wonderful people blessed with rich natural resources. He advised the local inhabitants and the nearby villages to take measures for more development in Apple production with proper management from different aspects. 


He encouraged the villagers to get involved in promoting agriculture which can be good for economic growth as well as for health benefits. He also assured the people that his department will assist in getting the right species of Apple for the cultivators in order to produce more which can bring a positive outlook economically for the people of Nagaland.


Toshi Wangtung, Advisor IPR, SCERT & Village Guard stressed on conserving forests. He exhorted that forests must be conserved in a larger way because cutting down of trees will lead to climatic change which will have negative impact on the cultivation of apples as well as for human survival in different ways. 


Throngso, President Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) conveying his message to the locals, said Apples are not grown in every parts of the world but only in certain parts, therefore, the local cultivators must strive more in its cultivation, and in holding such festival which must continue in the upcoming years with more production.
