JOTSOMA, SEPTEMBER 7 (MExN): The curtain raiser for the Captain N Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra Memorial Tournament was conducted today with Major General PC Nair, YSM IGAR (N) as the chief guest.
The event was held at the Regional Centre of Excellence in Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma.
Major General PC Nair while addressing the gathering said that Captain Kenguruse was among the bravest Nagas who laid down his life for the country. “He was part of the Ghatak platoon, which are among the best trained mentally and physically and in his honour the football tournament is conducted,” he stated, according to a report from the DIPR.
Nair observed that Nagas have potential and talent in football but there is lack of opportunities, which he hoped this tournament will provide. He summed up the spirit of the tournament by quoting Jesse Owen, track and field athletic: “Friendship bond on the field of athletic strive are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded but friends last a lifetime.”
The fourth edition of the Capt N. Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Tournament with prizes worth Rs 4 lakh, will be held from September 10 to 22 at the Local Ground, Kohima. A total of 24 teams will be participating with two teams each from all the districts. Neisielie Kenguruse, father of Capt (Late) N. Kenguruse unveiled the trophies of the football tournament.
