Nagaland to commemorate Dr. T. Ao’s centenary year

Kohima, January 19 (MExN): The inaugural programme marking the Birth Centenary of Dr. T. Ao will be held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on January 28 with the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya as the Chief Guest.  

Governor Acharya met with the State Level Committee for Commemoration of the 100th Birth Anniversary of Late Dr. T Ao at Raj Bhavan on January 19 and reviewed the calendar activities for the year-long celebrations which include unveiling of Dr. T. Ao portrait at Raj Bhavan, releasing of commemorative postage stamp, and Junior Football Tournament to be held in all Districts of the State. The Department of Health & Family Welfare and Youth Resources & Sports will visit institutions to highlight the importance and benefits of sports.  

The year-long commemoration will include activities such as Dr. T. Ao Inter District Football Tournament and laying of foundation stone for Dr. T. Ao Sports Academy and Dr. T. Ao Stadium. A documentary and coffee table book on Dr. T. Ao will also be released to mark the celebrations.  

Governor Acharya also said that the Principals of Cotton College, Guwahati, R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta, where Dr. T. Ao had studied and officials of Mohun Bagan, where he captained the Maroon and Green in 1948 and 1949, should be invited to attend the State Inaugural Programme.  

The Governor also stated that the Birth Centenary of Dr. T. Ao should be celebrated across the country with functions at Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati besides Nagaland.  

The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Advisor to CM, Toshi Aier, IAS (Retd), ACS & Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Piyush Goyal, IAS, Er. Indianoba Tally, son of Dr. T. Ao, various Government Department Officials and representatives from Nagaland Olympic Association and Nagaland Football Association, a press release from the Governor’s PRO informed.
