Nagaland H&FW provides handholding support to fight against COVID-19

Phek, April 7 (MExN): Principal Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Kohima, Dr Vizolie Suokhrie along with state officials visited Phek on April 7 to assess the district COVID-19 preparedness and provide handholding support. 

 


According to a DIPR report, a meeting was convened with the District Officials and staff of the department where Deputy Commissioner and Superintendant of Police also attended.

 


Dr Lanuakum, District Surveillance Officer for COVID-19 gave an overview preparedness status of the district and Dr Ruokuo Rutsa presented the preparedness of the quarantine centres set up in the district. Dr Tiala, Medical Superintendant, DH Phek also shared about the requirements of the hospital.

 


During the meeting, Principal Director Dr Vizolie stressed on the need to create awareness among the general public on COVID-19 and how to take precautionary measures. He said not to stigmatise the disease but to educate people on the preventive measures.

 


Principal Director along with the team visited District Hospital and expressed his satisfaction and suggested to convert the DH into a COVID-19 hospital. He lauded the surveillance team and all the health workers and also the administration department and Police department for the support given in combat the disease. Principal Director assured to provide all the requirements to the district.

 


The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendant of Police also gave their assurance of full support to the department for containment of the disease.

 


Meanwhile, Dr Puse Deputy Director DHFW spoke on the bio-waste management and how to handle and dispose waste materials if any positive case id been treated. Dr Vibeituonuo Mepfuo, Chief Medical Officer, Phek chaired the meeting where she also apprised the Principal Director regarding the status of preparedness and co-ordination works that is going on.

 

Wokha: Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare Nagaland, Dr Vizolie Z. Suokhrie along with directorate officials visited Wokha to inspect the ongoing activities for COVID-19 on April 7. He visited Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital which will be handling COVID-19 cases in the district and quarantine facility.

 


Dr Suokhrie also interacted with district medical officials to review the preparedness on COVID-19 undertaken in the district. Dr Vizolie stated that safety of health workers is top priority and assured that more personal protection equipments will be available soon. He urged the health workers to follow protocol during sample collection of suspected COVID -19 cases and focus on having a proper logistic management system.

 


Dr Puse Liegise, State Nodal Officer NUHM spoke on the importance of following guidelines in disposing biomedical waste related to COVID-19 cases.

 


Chief Medical Officer Wokha and Medical Superintendent District Hospital apprised the directorate officials of the preparedness in the district. The principal director later met Wokha Deputy Commissioner, Superintendant of Police and administrative officials at DC conference hall. The DC informed that the district administration is fully cooperating with the medical department for containment of the disease.
