The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has declared the results for High School Leaving Certificate Examinations (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (HSSLC) for 2019.
This year’s HSLC result saw marked improvement in the overall pass percentage when compared to 2018. Out of 23189 enrolled candidates, a total of 15835 qualified the examination with a qualified percentage of 68.29%. In 2018, the overall pass percentage was 66.01% while in 2017, it was 70.19%.
Girls as usual edged over the boys in overall performance with 8194 girls and 7641 boys qualifying the examination. In the top 20 list, there are 57 candidates out of which 30 are boys and 27 girls.
83 schools secured 100% qualified/pass percentage. Out of this, 70 are private schools and 14 are government schools. This year, 24 schools have zero/nil result out of which 22 are government schools and 2 private.
Government schools fared a little better than last year with an overall 43.32% qualifying the examination. Last year, the pass percentage was 40.77% and in 2017 it was 42.60%.
In terms of district wise performance for government schools, Kohima district again topped the table with a percentage of 61% followed by Phek district at 53%. Kiphire and Longleng district is at the bottom with 10%.
In respect to private schools, Kohima district is at the top with a percentage of 88% followed by Mokokchung at 84%. Number of candidates who secured 80% and above in aggregate is 1115. Out of this, 17 candidates are from government schools.
HSSLC examination overview
In the HSSLC examination results, the overall percentage in Arts stream is 74.44%, Commerce stream is 74.68% and Science stream is 81.37%.
Girls once again surpassed boys in overall pass percentage in all the three streams. Breaking it up, in Arts stream, girls stood 80.00% and boys at 67.78%. In the Commerce stream, pass percentage of girls were at 80.11 and boys at 71.10% whereas in the Science stream, girls stood at 85.69% and boys at 76.80%.
Girls further dominate the top-10 list of Arts and Commerce stream- with girls taking 10 slots each in both the streams while the boys were negligible at 2 slots each. In Science stream, the boys had a slight edge over girls with a 6-5 ratio.
In Arts stream, 11860 candidates enrolled for the examination out of which 8828 qualified with 74.44%/. In Commerce stream, 1319 students appeared for the examination and 985 students qualified with overall pass percentage of 74.68. In Science stream, 2641 students sat for the examination and 2149 students passed out putting the overall pass percentage at 81.37.
Eight institutions under Arts stream, one under Science and three under Commerce secured 100% pass result.
The HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2019 were held from February 12-March 4 and a total of 39009 candidates were enrolled for the two examinations. It took a period of 42 working days to prepare and declare the results, the NBSE informed in a press release.
