Tsonglaknyi festival celebrated in Meriema

Kohima, October 12 (MExN): "Culture and Tradition are made by God not by man, and if it is lost everything is lost." Adviser for Printing and Stationary, H Haiying said this during the celebration of Tsonglaknyi festival at IG Stadium Meriema on October 12. While stating that Naga culture and tradition are unique, he also urged the gathering to respect other cultures and traditions. He said the festival was a time to forgive and forget, and let peace and prosperity prevail in “our land,” while adding that success and progress come through sincerity, humility and hard work. As per a DIPR report, the programme was chaired by T Asuthong, Treasurer TUK. Folk song "O ha ha ha Tsonglak akii" was presented by Kiuti Khia Tsinrechip, while significance of Tsonglakni was shared by TL Kiusiimong, executive member TUK. A short speech was given by Topan, Tikhir Tribal President (TTC) and James Tikhir, President TUK and vote of thanks was delivered by Khiungakiu S Tikhir.

 

NSCN (IM) mourns demise of  Deputy Kilonser Khaiyar

Hebron, October 12 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today mourned by the untimely demise of Pengmayong A Khaiyar, Deputy Kilonser, GPRN from Longpi village under Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) on October 12. In a condolence message issued by MIP, it stated that Khaiyar enrolled in the Naga national service in 1986. He left behind his wife and son. “He served the Naga nation with unwavering national spirit until his demise. The void created by his demise would be difficult to fill in. For his selfless contribution to the Naga national cause, his name shall be recorded in the pages of Naga history and his sacrifices ever be cherished by all,” the message read. At this hour of sorrow, GPRN conveyed its deep condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty God grant his soul eternal peace and rest.

 

Peren district medical board meeting 

Peren, October 12 (MExN): Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Peren, Dr Denis Hangsing has informed all the departments in Peren District that the District Medical Board meeting is scheduled to be held on October 24, 10:00 am onwards in the office chamber of the Chief Medical Officer, Peren. Therefore, all departments who have candidates for confirmation, invalidation and commutation of Pension etc, for Grade-III and Grade-IV employees have been directed to submit the list by October 23.

 

Excise Dept seizes drugs worth around 9 lakh

Dimapur, October 12 (MExN): In a major haul of Narcotic drugs, the Narcotic Cell (NC) of the Excise Department, Nagaland seized a total of 5,800 bottles of Codeine cough syrup (LU cough) on October 11 at the Excise Check Gate, Chümoukedima at around 1:00 pm. Based on suspicion, the Excise Narcotic Cell duty party intercepted a Bolero pick–up mini-truck with Assam registration number, and on frisking recovered the drugs concealed below packaged drinking water bottles. In this connection, two accused persons – Sunny Malakar, 27 years and Tapan Deb, 30 years, both residents of Bokajan, Assam, were arrested. As per a press release from Deputy Commissioner of Excise (NC), S Chanlei Angh, on initial interrogation, both the accused admitted that they were trafficking drugs from Khakhati, Assam to Kohima. The apprehendees were booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act 1985 and forwarded to judiciary for further trial. The value of the seized drugs were estimated to be around Rs 9 lakh.
