Nagaland: NPCC welcomes upper house in NLA & additional parl seats for Nagaland

Dimapur, February 22 (MExN): The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today endorsed the call for setting up a bicameral legislature in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly with the creation of a Legislative Council or upper house, and the demand for additional Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seat for the state of Nagaland.

The Committee said this in a press statement, while urging the Government of India to execute an early settlement to the Naga Political issue, “keeping in view the repeated assurances and promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Nagas and to the nation on different occasions.”

These two demands must mandatorily be part of final political agreement and not left for further democratic processes, the PAC asserted.

It also called for rehabilitation and resettlement of NPG cadres under a ‘non partisan state government’ in coordination with the Government of India.

It meanwhile stated that economic packages for development of Nagaland have been “stunted by political strife and uncertainty.”

On the Pan Naga Hoho, it said that the idea of a Pan Naga Hoho or any other bodies in the form of an Advisory Council to the state of Nagaland is not acceptable without integration.  Nagaland state has sufficient safeguards under Article 371A, no other super imposition should be made to disturb or distort this provision, it added.
