Nagaland observe India’s 71st Independence Day

Kohima, August 16 (MExN): Greeting the people of the state on the occasion of the nation's 71st Independence Day, at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza on August 15, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang said that with regard to the Naga political issue, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has constituted the Political Affairs Committee with an objective for a more substantive contribution of the state not only as a mere facilitator, but to play an instrumental role in order to bring early settlement of the Naga Political problem.  

On law and order the situation in the State has significantly improved and to strengthen it further, police infrastructure, residential and non residential buildings have been completed at the 13th and 14th IR Battalion Headquarters.  

Besides highlighting the status of various departments, the Chief Minister stated that the advent of the GST regime from July 1, 2017 is expected to improve the overall efficiency of the taxation system. GST will also bring about a number of benefits as multiple layers of taxes will be eliminated leading to fall in the cost of production and subsequently fall in prices. There will also be revenue gain for both the State and the Centre as a result of the widening tax base. To ensure a smooth transition to GST, the Taxes Department has set up Facilitation Centres in all its offices fully equipped online to facilitate the taxpayers to access the GST portal free of cost.  

Various organisations and civil societies also visited orphanage homes, district jails, hospitals etc and also conducted programmes to mark the celebration.  

Business Association of Nagas: Business Association of Nagas (BAN) visited Nagaland orphanage home, Diphupar and distributed various items and eatables to the children donated by BAN members. The management of the orphanage organized a programme where BAN members shared words of encouragement and the children presented special numbers. The orphanage also has a school attached where children are offered affordable education. BAN team was led by President Thungbemo Murry.  

Kerala Club: Independence Day was celebrated in Cherry Blossoms School with the Kerala Club of Kohima visiting the differently able children. The differently abled children performed National Anthem in Sign Language along with action songs. A short film of Amitabh Bachchan performing sign language with children was also screen for the viewers.  

Balijan Youth Club: Balijan Youth Club observed Independence Day and unfurled the national flag in presence of school teachers, village elders and well wishers here at Balijan Youth Club office on August 15.  

Classic Club: Classic Club, Kohima visited Spastic Centre members on account of Independence Day. The Club contributed some eatable items and cash to the centre.  

DCCI: The members of DCCI visited Sharon Home for Hope located at Burma Camp and distributed Food items etc to the students of the orphanage. This project is done as per the directives of District administration.  

Dimapur Bengali Students Union: Dimapur Bengali Students Union observed Independence Day in the premise of Dayanand Vidya Niketan ST Boys Hostel, Purana Bazar. NPF minority wing president Bishnu Bhattacharjee was the speaker. The occasion was also graced by the president of Dimapur Bengali Samaj and chief advisor of DBSU KK Paul and other guest.  

Inner Wheel Club: Inner Wheel Club of Dimapur celebrated Independence Day with the inmates of Central Jail. The club donated sports and game items like Carrom board, Badminton rackets, volleyball, Chess, Chinese Chequers etc and also distributed fruits.  

IRCS Dimapur: Indian Red Cross Society, Dimapur District Branch visited Bethesda Youth Welfare Center. Chandu Agarwal, Chairman, Ajay Sethi, Vice-Chairman, K.K. Paul, Honorary Secretary & Kuldeep Jain, Convenor handed over the rice, dal, milk powder, potato, tea etc to Longshi, Program Officer in front of the inmates of the Youth Center.  

Dimapur Press Club: The Dimapur Press Club (DPC) visited the Central Jail Dimapur and distributed essential items and refreshments to the inmates and jail officials. A brief interaction was held with the inmates and jail officials where DPC president, Moa Longkumer highlighted the purpose of the visit. DPC former general secretary Paudi Rentta also heartened the jail inmates to take their stay in the prison as a challenge to transform their lives and lead a positive life.  

Kohima Press Club: The Kohima Press Club (KPC) visited District Jail Kohima and donated books, magazines and some essential food items to the inmates. A brief programme was held with the prison authorities and 78 inmates, wherein, KPC president Xavier Rutsa highlighted the purpose of the visit. District Jailor, Sunny Keppen and one of the inmates also gave brief speeches and thanked the Press Club for their benevolent visit.  

Lions Club, Kohima: Members of Lions Club of Kohima have visited children of the Eden Garden Children Home, Khuzama. The Club Members donated sweets and kitchen provisions for the children. Senior Lion Tali Jamir, immediate past president of the Club, led the team that included Lion Maren Paul, Lion Vitoshe Rochill, Lion Hozheto Shikhu, Lions Francis, Lion Oken Jeet Sandham, Lion Mahendra and Lion T Lima Longkumer. There are 234 children, 117 boys and 117 girls in the Home which was established in 1979.  

Leo Club, Dimapur: Leo Club of Dimapur along with Lions Club of Dimapur and Lions Club of Dimapur Blue Vanda hoisted the Indian flag at the Leo Park, Lion’s Club, Midland, Dimapur. Later the members visited the Spastic society, St. Marry’s Montessori & Higher Secondary school and distributed edible and stationeries items to the students. The project was under the chairmanship of Leo Nikhil.  

Muslim Council Dimapur: The members of the Muslim Council Dimapur visited the Prodigal's Home at Fellowship Colony Day. MCD donated Rice, Vegetables, Potatoes and Eggs to the home.  

Nagaland Adventure Club: Nagaland Adventure Club visited the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute and interacted with the 90 children and administrator, besides donating essential items and sharing sweets with the residents. KODH founded on April 16, 1973 by late Zaputuo-ii Angami and presently looked after by her daughter Neibanuo Angami.  

Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj: Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj, Dimapur visited Dimapur District Hospital and distributed around 800 plates of khichdi among the patients, attendants, Nurses and staff of the Hospital.  

NCSU: The Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU), Kohima led by its President Pele Khezhie along with 30 members visited Bright Morning Star Home Children at Perizie. The Proprietor Aleno & family started this noble project since 2012 and presently 17 students are in the Home, along with 4-5 fulltime workers running this Home without any financial assistance from the state government.  

SET NU: The School of Engineering and Technology, Nagaland University celebrated Independence Day in the Academic Complex of SET, D. C. Court Junction. Prof. S. K. Sharma, DEAN of SET hoisted the National Flag which was followed by national anthem and short speech. It was marked with drawing competition where eight B. Tech students participated. Zevotsol Sothu (ECE) was declared winner of the Competition, Ngoushutho (CSE) was placed in the second and Redhasangla Aier (BT) was placed in third position.  

JNV Zunheboto: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Zunheboto celebrated Independence Day the Principal I/C Yogendra Akshay unfurled the tricolor and took the march past salute by the junior Boys, junior girls and senior girls contingents of the school. Other highlights of the programme included speech by Rohit Kumar of Class IX and Patriotic song by Tsula and friends of class XI. The junior boys contingent were declared as the winner of the march past competition.  

Rotary Club Kohima: Rotary Club of Kohima along with the Rotractors visited Naga Hospital Kohima, OKING researcher clinic and hospital, and Medicare clinic at Kohima city. The club distributed, biscuits, soft drinks, snacks, soft food for all the patients as well as for the doctors and nurses too.  

Rotary Club Dimapur: Rotary Club of Dimapur visited Saint Joseph Child home on the eve of Independence Day. Dry ration, stationery, food packets were distributed among 42 inmates of the child home. A scholarship for the bright student of the home was also informed to the house.  

DDLSA: The Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) celebrates Independence Day by setting up of legal stall at DD Stadium, Dimapur. Various legal pamphlets and fliers were distributed to the public. The team headed by Hukato Swu, Chairman DDLSA cum Principal District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur, Ajongba Imchen, Secretary DDLSA cum Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur and Panel Lawyers later visited Central Jail and District Jail, Dimapur, Hukato Swu, Chairman cum Principal District and Sessions Judge interacted with the Jail inmates. Panel Lawyer Luzuku Achumi spoke on prisoners Rights.  

Nagaland House Delhi: Independence Day function was observed at Nagaland House Delhi with Y Patton unfurling the National flag in presence of L Khumo Khiamniungan, Parliamentary Secretary, Land Revenue, Village Guards & Women Development, officials and staff of Nagaland House Delhi and students and citizens of State of Nagaland, residing in Delhi.  

Sainik School Punglwa: Sainik School Punglwa, celebrated the Independence Day in the School campus. Lt Col M Kiran Meitei, Offg Principal hoisted the National, followed by singing of National Anthem along with the school band. The celebration also witnessed speeches by cadets on the contributions of freedom fighters. The speech was delivered in both English and Hindi.  

Also Sainik School Contingent consisting of thirty two cadets took part in the Independence Day parade held at District HQ Peren.  

JSS (Vidya Bharati): Janjat Shiksha Samiti (Vidya Bharati) celebrated the Independence Day with hoisting of the flag and salutation by Director of REM Temjen Along Longkumer. Pradhanacharya Rose Nka and Organising secretary Pankaj Sinha also spoke during the event.  

Murti Films Pvt Ltd: Actor, Producer and Director Munna Yadav, Proprietor of Murti Films Pvt Ltd along with his team Soapou (Apu) Khiamniungan and Sashi Dubey (VHP Women President Nagaland) distributed cloths and food items to the homeless people on the occasion of Independence Day 2017 at Dimapur.  

Green Caravan: The Green Caravan - Market Linkage for farmers and small time producers managed by Zynorique Initiatives Society visits Kohima Old Age Home, Meriema run by Good Samaritan Women Society. The Green Caravan team as part of the Independence Day Celebration visit had a prayer meeting and donated essential commodities to the society.
