Nagaland Polls: Campaigning ends

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 25 (MExN): Campaigning by political parties came to an end in Nagaland on February 25 at 4 pm, 48 hours before the day of polling.  

This was informed in a press note from the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland. For the59 constituencies (as one constituency under 11-Northern Angami-II was elected uncontested) in Nagaland a total of 195 candidates will be contesting to find a place in the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on February 27.  

Of the 60 seats one seat, Dimapur-Iis open for general candidate, while all the remaining 59 seats are reserved for ST candidates. There are 11,91,530 voters this time, an increase of about 2000 from the last General Election.  

Since November, polling stations have been classified in three categories- Critical, vulnerable and normal, where in the last election if voting was more than 75% or a candidate got 75% of the votes or places with complaints or booth capturing falls under critical category, cases with threat of intimation to voters or element of violence falls under vulnerable category and others are placed in normal category. Presently there are 1100 critical, 530 vulnerable and 566 normal polling stations which were classified by DCs, SPs and respective administrative officers.  

Nagaland is all set to go to polls on February 27 and vote counting will take place on March 3.
