Nagaland is facing shortage of 287 specialized doctors and about 130 MBBS doctors as per Indian Public Health Standard at present.

This was informed by Dr. Vikeyie Losou, Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare Nagaland during the inaugural session of the 23rd general conference of Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) which started here today at ATI Complex under the theme “Learn to serve humanity.”

Dr. Losou maintained that the department was aware that not enough posts are being created to accommodate the doctors who were passed out.

He said that since 2008 upto date, only 25 posts were created, which includes 9 for MBBS and 16 for dental.

He also said that this time the department has put up the proposal in the cadre review for 53 posts and is expecting to get such 53 post creation very soon.

Dr. Losou meanwhile called upon the medical fraternity to do their work with missionary zeal.

Earlier, Nagaland State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Advisor, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire urged upon the medical fraternity to learn to be humble first if they want to serve the humanity.

Dr. Kire also called upon the doctors to serve the people with dignity and humility and to do away with private practice.

“We should be ready to move out wherever we are asked,” he said.
