Nagaland Street vendors...

Street vendors, mostly women sell various organic and home grown products in Kohima town. Besides vegetables and fruits, the street vendors also sell fish, frogs and snail etc. It may be mentioned here that with the initiative of Entrepreneurs Associate (EA) ‘Uplifting Women Street Vendors Project’, the organization directly addresses the problems faced by women vendors and provided awareness as well as training for them. According to the EA, launched in October 2017, this initiative supports the women street vendors of the state for better access to their rights and educates them on basic skills for business, health, and finance. The project seeks to ensure that the training benefits the most deserving women who can in turn educate their peers and keep the change in motion. The project’s first cycle was piloted in Kohima. Each cycle comprises of two sessions seeking to address the objectives of the project with different groups of women. As of July 2019, the project has reached out to over 1300 women vendors in the districts of Kohima, Phek, Dimapur and Mokokchung. (Morung Photo)
