Nagaland: ZPO joins NFHRCC bandwagon

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC) on Wednesday welcomed the Zeliang Peoples’ Organisation (ZPO) for becoming a part of the fraternity by officially joining the ‘Naga survival road initiatives’ bandwagon.  

While welcoming ZPO, the NFHRCC recalled how it was formed in 2013 out of necessity to press forward for immediate construction of the ‘historic road project.’  

Of the extra ordinary road project which will link Tizit in Mon district to Khilma in Peren district, the Committee stated that as per the initial DPR, only 8 Kms stretch viz, 3 kms in Naginimora sector and 5 kms in Niuland Sectors remains to be completed for the fresh earth cutting works at an estimated cost of Rs.11.5 crores.  

Redresses from Dimapur to Khilma sector is expected to be inclusive when the stage 2 construction works begins, it added.  

The Committee meanwhile welcomed the gesture of the Neiphiu Rio who after resuming the Chief Minister ship in March 2018 undertook a bold initiative to revive the historical road project into a reality.  

The Committee also termed as encouraging the green signal given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Government of India to start the Phase 1 of the Stage 2 works which envisage covering Niuland to Amguri Sectors.  

The Committee is also scheduled to meet the Minister of Roads & Bridges, Tongpang Ozukum on September 21, 2018.
