Nagas in Myanmar to attend 21st Century Panglong Conference

•    Naga civil bodies to submit a memorandum

•    To propose and demand Federal state status which fully guarantees rights of Indigenous peoples  

Zingkaling Khamti, August 3 (MExN): Representatives of Naga inhabited areas in Myanmar have resolved that the civil bodies will put effort to attend the 21st Century Panglong Conference on behalf of Naga people. This was decided during the public consultative meeting on 21st Century Panglong Conference held under the aegis of Naga Literature and Culture (Central) and Council of Naga Affairs on July 30.  

A joint press statement from Naga Literature and Culture (Central) and Council of Naga Affairs said that the meeting, attended by 107 representatives from political parties, CSOs, student and youth organizations, women organizations, township committees and religious organizations from all the Naga inhabited areas in Myanmar, resolved that Naga civil bodies will prepare a Naga memorandum to submit at the 21st Century Panglong Conference.  

Furthermore, it said that the, “Federal state status which fully guarantees the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, enshrined in UNDRIP, 2007 shall be proposed and demanded for Naga people.”
