National Entrepreneurship Day 2017 observed in Kohima

Kohima, November 12 (MExN): National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in collaboration with Institute of Information Technology and Job-Oriented Training (IIJT) observed National Entrepreneurship Day 2017 on November 9.  

Held in the conference room of IIJT, Kohima with the theme ‘Catalyzing a cultural shift in youth entrepreneurship’ to achieve the stated objective of Government of India’s ‘Entrepreneurial India’, the event was attended by local entrepreneurs, potential entrepreneurs, officials of State Government and Entrepreneurs Associates, SIDBI and bankers.  

A press release from Bendang Aier, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, mentioned that the celebration of ‘National Entrepreneurship Day’ is in line with the Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is celebrated in the month of November every year by 160 countries where entrepreneurial experts, policy-makers, education practitioners and politicians participate. The day is dedicated to the cause of entrepreneurship to mobilise and accelerate the national spirit for entrepreneurship in every citizen, especially youths to become entrepreneurs and job creators, it added.  

In Kohima, A. Temjen Jamir, General Manager (GM), District Industries Centre (DIC), Kohima described the various qualities and stages of growth of an entrepreneur and an enterprise respectively, while encouraging the potential entrepreneurs. He also requested the established entrepreneurs to guide and share their experiences with the upcoming first generation Naga entrepreneurs from time to time.  

SP Gangte, Officer-In-Charge, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Dimapur in his PowerPoint presentation shared the recent initiatives of Government of India to “fund the unfunded” and “greenfield enterprises” through the setting up of an ecosystem. This will facilitate and continue to provide the entrepreneurs with a supportive environment for doing business, he said. In this regard, he explained the background, objectives and scope of Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) and Stand Up India (SUI) for the benefit of the participants.  

PowerPoint presentation on Customer Service Centre (CSC) by Lochumlo Khuvung, District Manager, CSC regarding delivery of e-related services, and discussion on opportunities for entrepreneurs in the financial sector like Financial Advisor, Stock Market, Mutual Fund, etc. by Mridul Baruah, Customer Relationship Officer, SBI, were the other highlights of the day. This was followed by interface with the stakeholders where queries from the potential entrepreneurs were taken up, the release added.  

Bendang Aier, AGM, NABARD also shared the potential for “Agripreneurship” as it can turn a farm into an agribusiness and make it a more attractive and profitable venture for entrepreneurs. To encourage “Agripreneurship”, NABARD is implementing various Credit Linked Subsidy Schemes of Government of India like Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS), National Livestock Mission – Entrepreneurship Development and Employment Generation (NLM-EDEG), Skill Development, Agriclinic and Agribusiness Centres (ACABC) Scheme, etc., he said.  

The Director of IIJT and a self-made first generation entrepreneur Alemjungshi Imchen also shared the valuable lessons he had learned during his journey as an entrepreneur and encouraged the potential entrepreneurs to be focussed, committed and hard working in their ventures since there is no short-cut in life.  

Vizoto, Manager, SBI and Lead District Manager of Kohima district in the vote of thanks acknowledged the support extended by team IIJT and the resource persons, local entrepreneurs, existing and potential entrepreneurs currently undergoing training on “Tally + GST”, officials from Entrepreneurs Associates and the banking community represented by Branch Managers and senior officers of SBI, UCO, Vijaya Bank, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank.
