NBSE 2018: Girls outshine boys again

The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) declared the results of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations, 2018 on May 18 and once again the girls outshined the boys in both Class 10 and 12.  

According to the NBSE’s overview of the examination, out of 21715 candidates in Class 10, a total of 14335 candidates qualified the examination with a pass percentage of 66.01%. The pass percentage of HSLC in 2017 was 70.19%.  

“The girls have again done better with 7448 girls qualifying and 6887 boys qualifying the examination. In the Top-20 list, there are 37 candidates out of which only 12 are boys and the rest i.e. 25 are girls,” it informed.

As for pass percentages, 63 schools secured 100% qualified/pass percentage. Out of 63, 54 are private schools and 9 are government schools. 30 schools have zero/nil result out of which 24 are government schools and 4 are private schools.  

In terms of district wise performance for government schools, Kohima district again topped the table with a percentage of 51% followed by Peren district at 50%. Longleng district is at the bottom with 9%.  

In respect of private schools, Kohima and Phek districts are at the top with a percentage of 83% followed by Mokokchung at 82%.  

In the HSSLC results, the girls again fared better than the boys. The pass percentage of girls stood at 79.87% and the boys at 70.44%.  

Stream wise, the overall pass percentage of Class 12 (Arts) was 73.42% with 8325 students qualifying out of a total of 11339.  

In the Commerce stream, out of 1360 appearing for the exam, 1003 students qualified with an overall pass percentage of 73.75%. In the Science stream, 2176 students qualified out of 2582 with an overall pass percentage of 84.39%.  

Four (4) institutions under Arts stream, 3 under Science stream and three (3) under the Commerce stream secured 100% pass result, the NBSE informed. 1 (one) private institution of Commerce stream got zero/nil result.  

The HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2018 commenced on March 9 and concluded on March 29, where a total of 36996 candidates appeared in the two examinations. “It took a period of 42 working days to prepare and declare the results,” the board said its overview.
